Selection Policy & Review Process

Selection Policy

  • The resource is selected to reflect strengths.
  • The content of the resource is appropriate to the needs and interests of the audience and may be useful to AASL/YALSA staff in providing advisory services.
  • The resource is used or has been used by professionals on the AASL/YALSA staff; or the resource has been reviewed by AASL/YALSA staff and is of acceptable authorship, content and purpose.
  • The resource is no older than five years, except for some historical or unique resources that may be older.

Links from the bibliographies to the publishers/producers of selected resources will not be provided, except for a) resources published or produced by ALA, its units or divisions; b) resources published or produced by other organizations in partnership with ALA, its units or divisions; and c) resources accessible in full-text free of charge on the Internet.

Review Process

  • The selected resources will be reviewed for continuing relevancy on a regular basis.
  • Reviewers will be AASL/YALSA staff.
  • New items used in providing advisory services, or new items with the potential to be used in such a manner, will be added to the bibliographies.
  • During these regular reviews, AASL/YALSA staff will consider recommendations for additions from members.
