Creating a Comprehensive Plan for Information Literacy

Course Description: This course will provide you with the information you need to create a comprehensive plan for information literacy for your institution. The course will cover:
- planning;
- setting goals and objectives;
- how to organize and prioritize ideas;
- the writing process;
- and the creation of a draft plan.
You will be guided through the process of developing a comprehensive plan using worksheets developed by the presenter, participating in weekly on-line chats, and comparing examples of completed plans from a variety of institutions. Participants will learn how to establish and convene working groups, consider various means for collecting information and getting “buy-in” across campus, create a strategy for writing the plan, identify and select essential and optional components of a model plan, and put a draft of the plan on paper.
Live Chat Sessions: Three real-time chat sessions will be held each week; participants may attend the time that works best for them. Participation in chat sessions is encouraged but not mandatory; transcripts of the discussions are posted following the sessions.
Chats will be held weekly at the following times:
Mondays: 3-4 p.m. Eastern Wednesdays: 9-10 a.m. Eastern Thursdays: 7-8 p.m. Eastern
Learning Outcomes: By the end of this seminar, you will complete:
- A plan for assessment of an aspect of your information literacy program
- A strategy for putting your plan on paper
- A draft comprehensive plan for information literacy

Course Requirements: Your participation will require approximately three to five hours per week to:
- Read the online seminar material
- Post to online discussion boards
- Complete online exercises, which will result in an information literacy plan
- Complete a seminar evaluation form
