Electronic Collection Development for the Academic E-LibraryAn ACRL Online Seminar Registration for this course will open in October 2008. Course Description: The instructor will use examples of well planned and designed e-libraries on the Web to illustrate each part. Electronic Collection Development for the Academic E-Library is a primarily asynchronous seminar, allowing participants to work through course material at times convenient to them throughout the week. Participants may also choose to schedule chat time with one another or with the instructor, as they feel necessary. Specific material and activities are expected to be covered during each week of the course. Threaded discussion forums will be available for use in activities and other course-related conversations. Participants will end the session with a completed collection development plan for the e-library collection they wish to develop including:
Audience: Experience working with the academic library patrons in the subject area chosen is assumed. Level of instruction is intermediate. Participants should know how to use e-mail and a current standard Web Browser Mozilla/Firebird, Netscape 7.0 or IE 5.5 or higher is preferred. Some HTML or HTML editor experience will be useful. Instructor: The instructor is the co-author of The Kovacs Guide to Electronic Library Collection Development: Essential Core Subject Collections, Selection Criteria, and Guidelines (Neal-Schuman, January 2004).
