Recruitment, Retention, and Restructuring: Human Resources in Academic Libraries
Ad Hoc Task Force on Recruitment and Retention Issues, ACRL Personnel Administrators and Staff Development Officers Discussion Group

Librarianship is experiencing a labor gap between increasing demand for library and information science professionals and a declining supply of qualified individuals. The increasing demand for library professionals, coupled with the changing nature of librarianship, is beginning to impact the recruiting environment, which in turn is likely become increasingly competitive. Given the increasing difficulty in recruiting MLIS graduates to academic libraries, retention of qualified and motivated employees also becomes critical. Recruitment to the profession will require the active participation of professional associations, library and information science programs, and individual libraries. This volume addresses the issues of recruitment to and retention in the library profession in general and academic libraries in particular. It documents topics of discussion, presents questions, and compiles specific strategies for enhancing recruitment and retention efforts. Includes a literature review and annotated bibliography.
