Illinois and North Carolina Top
U.S. News Library-School Rankings
The University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign and the University of North Carolina/Chapel Hill tied for the top position in U.S. News and World Report's 1999 ranking of graduate programs in library science.
In addition to the overall ratings, programs were ranked in specialties. The University of Texas/Austin topped the list for archives and preservation, the University of Pittsburgh for health sciences librarianship, Drexel University for information systems, Indiana University for music librarianship, Rutgers/New Brunswick for both school library media and services children's and youth services.
Graduate schools in seven disciplines were rated by administrators and faculty in each field to compile the listings. The rankings are published in the annual publication, America’s Best Colleges, which goes on sale August 24, and on the magazine’s Web site.
