Seattle PL Receives $4 Million in GiftsSeattle Public Library will receive gifts totaling approximately $4 million in memory of A. Scott Bullitt from his daughter Priscilla Bullitt Collins and son Stimson Bullitt, the library announced August 4. In recognition of Bullitt’s lifelong interest in American history, the gifts will endow annual programs on U.S. history and buy books and materials relating to U.S. history and biography. The gifts will also help fund construction of the new central library, which will have an area named the A. Scott Bullitt History and Biography Section. Bullitt was a leader of the state Democratic party during the 1920s. His wife, Dorothy Stimson Bullitt, was founder of King Broadcasting Company and she served twice on the library board of trustees. “The Bullitt family has played such an important role in Seattle’s history and in supporting the community,” said City Librarian Deborah L. Jacobs. “Their gifts will benefit library users for generations to come.” Posted August 9, 1999. |
