Holland Group Organizes to Fight
Internet Filtering Proposal

Tentatively calling itself Families for Internet Access, a group has formed in Holland, Michigan, to oppose a pro-filtering ordinance scheduled to come to a public vote February 22.

According to the December 22 Holland Sentinel, the group is organizing in response to the local chapter of the Mississippi-based American Family Association, which launched a petition drive for a vote on whether the city should withhold funding from the Herrick District Library unless the library installs filters on all its public computers with Internet access.

FIA spokesman Mike Noordijk told the Sentinel that the group has about 50 members so far, with an organizing committee of 10–15 people. “The AFA is coming in and basically calling [librarians] pornographers and comparing the library to an adult bookstore, which is ridiculous,” he said. “We just feel like we need to support our library.”
