Julie Cummins Named
School Library Journal
Editor-in-Chief

Julie Cummins, coordinator of children’s services at the New York Public Library, has been named editor-in-chief of School Library Journal. She will take the helm of Cahners’ monthly magazine for children’s, young adult, and school librarians October 16.

Cummins, who currently serves on the American Library Association’s Executive Board, has been a member of ALA Council since 1991. She has chaired numerous ALA committees, including the Caldecott and Newbery Medal committees, the Planning Committee, and the Nominating Committee. She is the author of several children’s books, including The Inside-Outside Book of Libraries (Dutton, 1996) and the forthcoming Tomboy of the Air, to be published by HarperCollins in March 2001. She holds a master’s in library science from Syracuse (N.Y.) University.

Cummins will replace Renée Olson, who resigned in August to become editor of Rutgers Magazine.
