Teen Arrested for Counterfeiting Checks
at Fort Myers Library
Sheriff’s deputies arrested 19-year-old Terrance Christian August 29 for allegedly using a computer program downloaded from the Internet at the Fort Myers-Lee County (Fla.) Library to print counterfeit checks. Police said Christian and another unidentified man printed out the checks at the library and cashed a total of $1,000 at a nearby grocery store, according to an August 30 report by local NBC affiliate WBBH-TV.
Library staff said the men entered a dollar amount and printed the checks on the library’s color computer. Public Promotions Coordinator Noreen Reagan told reporters, “I’m surprised and sad every time someone misuses library resources,” and added that this is the first instance she knows of where the computers were used to commit a crime.
Police said they investigated Christian because he signed his own name and had his real driver’s license number printed on the check.
