University of Texas Staffer Gets Probation for Thefts

Gloria C. Gonzalez, who was convicted of stealing more than $200,000 in fines and fees from the University of Texas at San Antonio library in March, was sentenced to 10 years of probation October 3.

During that time, Gonzalez will also have to repay the money taken and perform 500 hours of community service, the San Antonio Express-News reported October 4.

Gonzalez’s sentencing had been scheduled for April, but District Judge Juanita A. Vasquez-Gardner granted her six months to demonstrate a good-faith effort to repay the library. Gonzalez paid $9,500 in restitution on the day of the sentencing. Vasquez-Gardner took that into account in granting Gonzalez’s plea for probation.
