Be a part of a special program for women seeking to become leaders in higher education administration and student affairs. Coproduced by 19 higher education associations, this unique program will bring together administrators from across campus functions to help you:
Through presentations, small-group exercises, and discussion, you will gain a practical understanding of what it takes to be a leader on a college or university campus—both the challenges and the rewards. Examine the unique roles, skills, and relationships needed to lead as higher education faces and deals with the most challenging period in 50 years.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The Women’s Leadership Institute represents an effort to create leadership programming for a specific group within the larger field of higher education. Leadership development and positioning continue to be concerns for women in society in general and is a focus of development of the next generation of leaders in higher education. Research shows that while the gap may be narrowing, pay and promotion disparity continue to be problems.
This program has the added benefit of bringing together women from administrative and student affairs functions across institutions of higher education. It provides a special opportunity to learn, not just about leadership skills, but about how other parts of the campus function, what their priorities and challenges are, and how to bridge the communication gap that may exist when we try to work across “cultures.”
The Women’s Leadership Institute is a four-day/three-night program with two primary purposes:

Registration fees include general session and breakout sessions, program materials, an opening reception, dinner, lunch, brunch, and two continental breakfasts. There will be group activities to allow participants to refocus after sessions, but there are many other activities you can do on your own. Please see the lodging information on the next page for details.
Upon written request, cancellations will be issued a refund and assessed a $75 processing fee prior to the registration deadline of Nov. 19, 2010. A $150 processing fee will be assessed for a cancellation requested after Nov. 19. No refunds will be issued after Dec. 1 and the full registration fee will be assessed. The entire registration fee is due at the time of registration. A $25 processing fee will be added to all registrations not paid in full by the first day of the seminar. Checks or purchase orders should be made payable to the Association of College Unions International. All registration fees will be refunded if the seminar is cancelled because of low registration. Please register as early as possible so we can plan appropriate program materials.
LODGING AND TRANSPORTATION
Lodging is provided by the beautiful Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island. The associations have negotiated a deeply discounted rate of $159 for this conference for either single or double occupancy. The resort offers many amenities including spa and golf. You are within a stone's throw of the beach, and the resort offers complimentary coffee and water for morning beach walkers. There is a fitness center available for no charge, but the spa also offers a wonderful day pass for $25, which includes use of the newly remodeled spa pool, sauna, hot tub, relaxation room, and locker room.
The resort is just a short drive to the 55-block historic district where we will eat dinner one night. It is a quaint historic sea-village with antiques, dining, novelty shops, and jewelers.

Transportation: The most used airport in the area is the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), located about 30 minutes from resort. For smaller aircraft, Fernandina Beach Municipal Airport is designed to accommodate Gulfstream V aircraft or smaller. It has six runways and serves all aircraft other than major airlines.
Rental cars are available at the airport, but please note there is a valet fee of $15 if you have a car at the resort (this is a discounted rate and you must mention ACUI to the valet). There is no option to self park at the resort. No specific contracts have been made with these companies, but the following businesses service the JAX to Ritz-Carlton route:
