Webcast Description:
This webcast will be a basic introduction to the techniques and standards needed to produce and maintain your own taxonomy. We will go over brainstorming, collection analysis, user testing, and tools for making an in house taxonomy. We will also discuss how to adapt a taxonomy when your collection changes, and standards for vocabulary development. This session will also point you to books, articles, and websites that can give you more detail to complete your project.
As you probably have a project in mind, please email the presenter with a short descriptive summary of your organization and project, and what questions you hope to answer in the presentation at taxoquestions@gmail.com.

Intended Audience:
Academic librarians and others wishing to gain knowledge, tips and tricks for creating their own in-house taxonomy. The presenter will also discuss choosing a correct existing taxonomy for use with your collection.
Webcast Presenter:
Jenny Benevento - Taxonomist/User Experience Architect - Sears Holding Corp.
Jenny Benevento uses decades old library science techniques to classify digital content on the internet and make it more findable. She helped create a system of controlled tags to make Associated Press news content findable (and more profitable), and has done similar work for variety of websites through her freelance business. She currently works as a taxonomist at Sears Holding Company. She has worked in public, academic, and special libraries in most departments and holds an MS in LIS from the University of Illinois.

* Webcasts take place in an interactive, online classroom environment with one user/one login. If you select the group rate, one person must register, login, and keyboard during the event. A group registration allows an institution to project the Webcast to participants in the same location.
