ALA Code of Ethics
Librarians should be guided by this important document explaining the ethical principles relating to librarianship. Those serving young adults should be especially concerned with sections regarding equitable access, privacy rights, and distinguishing between personal convictions and personal duties.

ALA Bill of Rights 
Adopted June 18th, 1948, this document gives rationales for thorough library services to all users, urges librarians to challenge censorship, and suggests that librarians provide materials representing all viewpoints.
